It was a night of “tossing and turning” for an Iowa woman as she stayed awake thinking about her finances.

But the late-night thoughts about money weren’t a worry for the 64-year-old from Evansdale. Instead, Diane Oltmann was thinking about her $300,000 lottery win, officials said in a Jan. 9 news release.

She purchased a scratch-off ticket from a convenience store in her town and learned late into the night that she had won the “Ruby Red Crossword’s” top prize, officials said.

“I was pretty shocked and stunned,” Oltmann told officials. “I tried to sleep, but no.”

The woman has plans for some of the cash, but what to do with the full $300,000 is unknown.

“I just bought a house 18 months ago, so I’m guessing I’d better pay it off,” Oltmann told lottery officials.

Evansdale is about a 75-mile drive northwest from Iowa City.
