Wife makes man wait to scratch rest of Ohio lottery ticket. He sees ‘zero after zero’
An Ohio man was in the middle of scratching off a winning lottery ticket when his wife made him pause to eat lunch.
Thinking the ticket was going to be worth $1,000, she told lottery officials that she wanted her husband to eat and dream about what they would do with a big lottery win.
He ate, then continued to work on his ticket. He “started to see zero after zero after zero,” Ohio lottery officials said in a Dec. 27 news release.
“I scratched off the 5 and said, ‘Wow it’s $5,000.’ I didn’t register that it was $50,000,” the husband said in the release.
The couple had previously purchased multiple lottery tickets from Little General Store in Albany and won $100, they told lottery officials. They had two tickets remaining when the husband went back to the store to see if the remaining tickets were winners.
While inside, he saw a new book of lottery tickets and decided to purchase more. As he scratched off what would be the big winner, he saw a “100X” symbol, stopped and thought “I got to go,” he told officials.
When he eventually scratched off the winning ticket, the pair confirmed their prize on the Ohio lottery app.
The couple plans to use their winnings to pay off an equity line of credit on their home.
Albany is about a 145-mile drive east from Cincinnati.
