Two women were arrested after being accused of stealing, then one woman decided to lie about her age, California deputies said.

On Dec. 18, two deputies spotted a car with a broken headlight and expired registration, so they pulled the driver over, according to a Facebook post by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

One of the deputies also recognized the car from a previous theft in the area, authorities said.

The deputy pulled the car over and spoke to the 36-year-old driver and the 29-year-old passenger, the sheriff’s office said.

At first, the 29-year-old gave a fake name and a birthdate that would make her 12 years old, deputies said.

They thought she looked older than the 2012 birthday she gave them, and after investigating, deputies learned she had an outstanding warrant for $250,000 from Contra Costa County on theft-related charges, authorities said.

While investigating, deputies said they saw large amounts of alcohol and beauty products in the car, which neither woman had receipts for.

The items were valued at $2,845 in total, deputies said.

Deputies believe the items were stolen from five locations in the area, the release said.

The 29-year-old was arrested on charges of organized retail theft, possession of stolen property, conspiracy, impersonating another to make liable and an outstanding warrant.

The 36-year-old was arrested on charges of organized retail theft, possession of stolen property and conspiracy.

They were transported to the Main Adult Detention Facility before being released on a $30,000 bail, deputies said.

Sonoma County is about an 80-mile drive northwest of San Francisco.
