Abandoned dog was almost killed outside Virginia shelter, but then a miracle happened
A dog who was put in a heartbreaking situation celebrated over the holidays in Virginia after finding a home.
On Nov. 26, the Norfolk Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Adoption Center posted a Facebook video of security footage showing a woman leaving a puppy tied to a pole outside the shelter.
“A sweet little puppy was found abandoned and tied to a pole outside our facility while we were closed. Her owner abandoned her and tied her to a loose piece of a gutter at the front step,” the shelter said in the post.
Unfortunately, being abandoned was the least of the dog’s troubles at the moment.
“Overcome by flight or fight she ran into oncoming traffic where she merely avoided being hit by oncoming traffic. Good Samaritans saved her life,” the shelter continued. “This poor pup had no choice but to wait for someone to help, and we are so grateful that she was found safe.”
Named Grace, the dog’s story was shared on local television, hoping to touch the heart of someone who would love and adopt Grace before the holiday season.
And then, a holiday miracle happened.
On Dec. 11, the shelter posted an update, and Grace had been adopted.
Sharon Tomosovich saw Grace’s story and just knew, WAVY shared. She was also struck by a shocking similarity Grace shared with her late dog, the news outlet reported.
“It seemed like an omen to me because I had just lost my dog of 13 years, and her name was Grace,” Tomosovich said, according to the station. “And she would just look so sweet. I’ve been very sad about losing my dog, because it’s only been about a month-and-a-half that I lost her.”
Tomosovich renamed Grace to Holly Grace, and she is giving the pup some love and attention.
