79-year-old day care owner shows 4-year-old a video of her performing sex acts, feds say
A 79-year-old day care owner was charged after being accused of sexually abusing a 4-year-old in New Mexico, federal officials said.
In November, Juan Jose Cardiel Sr., the owner of Cardiel Childcare Services in Las Cruces, showed a 4-year-old girl under his care videos of her when she was 3 years old and a baby performing sexual acts on him, according to court documents.
He also showed the girl videos of people engaging in sexual acts with her and videos of him touching her inappropriately, according to a Dec. 9 news release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico.
He was charged with attempted enticement of a minor, officials said.
Cardiel was previously arrested in May on charges of criminal sexual contact with a minor, officials said.
Cardiel’s lawyer declined to comment when contacted by McClatchy News on Dec. 10.
Cardiel will remain in custody while he waits for his Dec. 11 scheduled court date, officials said.
He is facing 10 years to life in prison, prosecutors said.
Las Cruces is about a 220-mile drive south of Albuquerque.
