Child passes out drug-laced gummies at school, Louisiana cops say. One hospitalized
Four children ended up high at school after a student passed out candy laced with a psychoactive ingredient, according to investigators in Louisiana.
It happened Thursday, Dec. 5, at a school in LaPlace, about a 30-mile drive northwest of New Orleans, the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a Dec. 6 news release.
“Deputies responded to East St. John Preparatory Academy in LaPlace in reference to four juveniles being under the influence of THC edibles including one of the four being sent to a local hospital,” the sheriff’s office said.
“The students’ ages are age 12, 11 and two 10-year-olds. ... The edibles were brought to school by an 11-year-old student, who also ate the drug while at school.”
An investigation revealed the child took the “package of THC edibles from their parent/guardian at home,” officials said. It was not revealed whether the child knew the gummies contained THC.
A search warrant was executed at the child’s home in LaPlace, where detectives found “1,300 grams of THC edibles, multiple methamphetamine tablets, and drug paraphernalia,” the sheriff’s office said.
One man was arrested at the home and charged with possession with the intent to distribute a Schedule I drug (Marijuana), possession of a Schedule II drug (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia and cruelty to a juvenile, officials said.
Investigators did not reveal the relationship of the suspect to the child.
East St. John Preparatory Academy has over 400 students in grades 5 through 8.
