7-year-old shoots 2-year-old brother dead with gun found in truck, California cops say

A 7-year-old boy accidentally shot his 2-year-old brother dead with a gun found in the glove compartment of a pickup truck, California sheriff’s officials reported.

Deputies called to a shooting in the parking lot of a Rancho Cucamonga shopping center at 3:53 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, found the injured boy, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The 2-year-old, a Crestline resident, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, deputies said. The child’s identity has not been publicly released.

Investigators learned his brother found a firearm in the truck’s glove compartment, leading to the shooting, deputies said.

A report on the incident will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office, deputies said.

Rancho Cucamonga is about a 20-mile drive west from San Bernardino.
