‘Clumsy’ dog waited 100 days in North Carolina shelter. Then came the ‘perfect match’
A “clumsy” dog waited more than 100 days for a home — then a man visited her shelter with one goal in mind.
“He had already set his heart on meeting Nancy, so we arranged a meet-and-greet and crossed our fingers,” the North Carolina shelter wrote Nov. 12 in a Facebook post. “The connection was immediate; they were a perfect match and went home together that day. Our hearts soared watching Nancy finally find her person.”
The Forsyth Humane Society said it celebrated the heartwarming adoption four months after Nancy arrived in June. She was transferred from a crowded shelter and “quickly became a staff favorite due to her playful energy, compatibility with other dogs, and eagerness to learn new tricks.”
Nancy is described in social media posts as a smart, photogenic dog with a love for treats and adventures. But the shelter warned that the 2-year-old pup could be “a bit clumsy” due to her level of excitement.
“Our team often wondered why and how this incredible dog hadn’t yet found her forever home,” the animal organization wrote. “She had everything anyone could want in a dog, but somehow, the timing just wasn’t right — until it was.”
The shelter had been helping to rescue animals in Western North Carolina after the devastation of Hurricane Helene, and those efforts caught the eye of a man from Asheville. He visited the humane society and fell for Nancy right away.
“These two are totally in love with each other,” the owner’s sister told the shelter. “She is a joy, and our family loves her to pieces! They are a perfect pair.”
The shelter, which didn’t respond to McClatchy News’ requests for additional information on Nov. 13, shared the good news about Nancy’s adoption in celebratory social media posts. The facility called her 104-day journey one of its favorites.
“Seeing our long-timers find their perfect match is always a dream come true,” the shelter wrote.
