Mom accused of drunk driving leads cops on chase with 4-year-old in car, CA cops say
A 24-year-old mom accused of drunk driving led officers on a high-speed chase with her young child in the car, California troopers and a news outlet said.
Troopers tried to stop the driver as she sped 90 mph on a freeway in Hayward, the California Highway Patrol said in a Nov. 7 post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
But the woman wouldn’t stop for officers, officials said.
She continued leading troopers on a chase until she left the freeway and abandoned her car, authorities said.
The driver then fled with her 4-year-old child “in tow,” troopers said.
She was arrested and had nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol in her system, troopers said.
A 25-year-old male passenger was also arrested, CBS News reported from authorities. He illegally possessed a loaded gun, troopers said.
“Officers were horrified to discover a child was in the vehicle during these reckless acts. They acted swiftly and safely apprehended both suspects, ensuring the child was unharmed,” troopers said.
Hayward is about a 30-mile drive southeast from San Francisco.
