A 24-year-old hunter died in a 150-foot fall from an old train bridge in Washington, deputies said.

Authorities were alerted to the incident at 7:22 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in the Matlock area, the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

Haley Benjamin of Elma had fallen through the trestle bridge and landed on a riverbank, deputies said.

Fire officials contacted deputies for help reaching the woman, but neither agency could reach her because of the steep terrain, deputies said.

An officer from the Aberdeen Police Department used a drone to find her and confirm she was dead, deputies said.

Weather conditions and the terrain kept the agencies from reaching her that day, so a rescue team with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office was later sent.

But when the team got to the woman’s location, the river had swept her body away, deputies said.

A swift water rescue team from Thurston County Sheriff’s Office was working with the Mason County rescue team Monday to find her body.

Matlock is about a 35-mile drive northwest of Olympia.
