A Maryland man had just finished up “making his weekly football picks” at a casino when something caught his eye: a lottery ticket sitting in a vending machine.

The ticket, a Ravens X10 scratch-off, was a fairly new game, so loyal the lottery player decided to give it a shot, Maryland Lottery officials said in an Oct. 25 news release.

Then, days later, the Prince George County man gathered his scratch-off tickets to check them at a gas station.

He was in for a surprise when he scanned his Ravens X10 ticket.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” the man told lottery officials. “It said I won, so I scratched the rest of the ticket to see the winning numbers.”

The man won the game’s top prize of $200,000, lottery officials said.

“I almost shed a tear,” he said. “I was mind-blown.”

He told lottery officials he plans to use his winnings to help his daughter pay her college tuition.

Despite his big win, the man told lottery officials it hasn’t “slowed his love of playing lottery games.”

“I picked up some tickets before I came here today,” the man said.

Prince George County is about a 40-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
