85-year-old rescued 75 feet from trail after spending night on mountain, WA cops say
A missing 85-year-old man spent the night on a Washington mountain after being found 75 feet from a trail, deputies said.
The Portland, Oregon, man set out to hike Wind Mountain at about noon on Wednesday, Oct. 23, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
Wind Mountain is east of Stevenson, Washington, deputies said.
But when the man never made it home and couldn’t be reached, his worried daughter contacted authorities at 11:18 p.m.
A search team went to the Wind Mountain Trailhead and found his vehicle, deputies said.
Searchers found him at 1:21 a.m., about 75 feet from the trail, deputies said.
A rope team was contacted because of the “rugged terrain,” deputies said. He was recovered and brought to the trailhead at 7:14 a.m.
The man was taken the hospital for treatment, deputies said. No update on his condition has been provided.
Wind Mountain is about a 55-mile drive northeast from Portland.
