‘Happy accident’ brought this iconic loft into the film industry. It’s for sale in CA
A loft that’s more than a century old has landed on the real estate market in downtown Los Angeles for a whopping $20 million. The price reflects not only the massive amount of space, but also its legacy in the Hollywood industry.
The 26,000-square-foot property, which is the size of a mega mansion, is owned by fashion designer and car builder Magnus Walker, who is known for housing his Porsche collection inside the building.
“The building stands out as one of the most distinctive lofts in all of Downtown LA and the greater Los Angeles region,” a news release on the loft says. “Built in 1903, it offers soulful two-story brick design and is the ultimate inspiration ground for any creatively inclined owner/user or commercial business looking for a trophy property.”
Features include:
Gated entry
Parking for 12 cars inside
Brick walls
Vintage wood floors
High ceilings
Skylights
“Casement windows”
Freight elevator
Garden
Rooftop views
Walker is also known for creating Serious Clothing, which was worn by musicians Gwen Stefani, Madonna and Alice Cooper. The building was originally purchased for Serious Clothing but ended up taking on a life of its own — in Hollywood.
“Within six months of being in the building, we accidentally fell into the Film Location Business,” Walker said in the news release. “We weren’t calculated enough to have bought a building to get into the film location business. We purely bought a building to combine a live work space where we lived upstairs in the 11,200 square foot loft, and then ran Serious Clothing out of downstairs.
“Filming was a happy accident. We saw the opportunity to build something into a pretty lucrative film location business for the next 10-12 years.”
The listing is held by Canyonhaus at Compass (Tori Horowitz, RInat Greenberg) and Normal Properties (Geoff Anenberg).
