A Popeyes employee is accused of stabbing a customer in what authorities are calling an act of self-defense, Pennsylvania reports say.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at a Popeyes on the north side of Philadelphia, according to WCAU.

Police said a 28-year-old customer was arguing with Popeyes workers about his food order when he began attacking one of them, WPVI reported.

As the 34-year-old worker was being assaulted, the employee pulled a knife and stabbed the customer in the side and head, police told WTXF.

Police said the man who was stabbed fled the restaurant, but officers followed a blood trail to find him in a nearby home, according to WCAU. He was reportedly detained and hospitalized in stable condition.

The employee is not facing charges, as officers said he acted in self-defense, WPHL reported.

The stabbing, which WTXF reported took place with around eight employees in the restaurant, was captured on surveillance footage.

“The franchisee, along with the employee involved in the incident, are fully cooperating with local authorities on the current investigation,” a Popeyes spokesperson said in a statement to McClatchy News.
