Lottery player’s losing ticket ends up winning her huge prize. ‘Thought it was a scam’
A Michigan woman’s losing lottery tickets led her a huge prize she didn’t expect.
Jami Hawkins, 42, played the $300,000,000 Extraordinaire game, but did not win the jackpot, according to an Oct. 14 news release from the Michigan Lottery.
However, Hawkins did scan her non-winning lottery tickets on the Michigan Lottery app, which entered her into a drawing for a second chance to win.
The Port Huron woman said she was in disbelief when she was chosen in a random drawing.
“I got a voicemail from the Michigan Lottery telling me I won a $100,000 second chance prize, and I thought it was a scam,” she told lottery officials.
Hawkins said she only scanned the $300,000,000 Extraordinaire second chance tickets a few times.
“So I thought there was no way it could be real. When I called the Lottery back, an employee confirmed my prize, and that’s when it hit me that it was real,” she said. “Now that I have claimed my prize, I feel like I can start to really bask in the fun and excitement of winning!”
Hawkins said she plans to take a tropical vacation with her winnings.
