A man has been charged with murder months after a stabbing that killed a Georgia grandmother, police said.

Demitrus Davis, 38, was arrested Sunday, Oct. 6, on multiple charges, including sodomy and rape, in connection to the July 4 stabbing, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

Officers were called just before 11:40 a.m. about an unconscious person at a home and found a woman with a “life-threatening wound,” police said in a news release.

The woman was “not alert, conscious or breathing,” authorities said, and she died at the scene.

The county medical examiner’s office identified her as 63-year-old Annette Santos, WXIA reported. Officials said she had been stabbed in the chest.

It’s not clear what led to the stabbing, and Atlanta police told McClatchy News “there is no reason to believe” Davis and Santos knew one another.

Santos, a grandmother to 13 grandchildren, was affectionately known as “Angel” to her family and loved ones, according to an online obituary.

“Angel was known for her exceptional style and pizzazz, ability to do hair and makeup, her intelligence, strength, and caring spirit,” it reads. “She could light up any room with her smile, and make anyone laugh with her wit and charm.”

“She enjoyed spending time with her family, and took special joy in watching her children mature into adulthood, have families of their own and fulfilling careers,” the obituary continued.

Davis remained in the Fulton County Jail without bond as of Oct. 8, records show.
