A teenager pressed a fake gun into a 21-year-old man’s back and told him he was being robbed, Pennsylvania police said.

Believing the gun pointed at his back on Sept. 29 was real, the man started to comply with the 16-year-old boy’s demands, gathering his wallet and other valuables, Philadelphia police told WCAU.

The man, however, was armed with a real gun and turned to shoot the teen in the leg, police said, according to WPVI.

“Having been pressed into the victim’s back, there would have been no way for them to know that,” Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace told WXTF of the fake gun.

The teen was taken to the hospital in stable condition while the man was unharmed, police said. The 16-year-old was also taken into custody, police said.

Police eventually recovered the fake gun at the scene.

Another male suspect is accused of working with the teen in the attempted robbery, according to police. He has not been located.
