Shelter cat waited for years after owners ‘promised’ to come get her. She needs a home
A cat abandoned by her owners after they packed up and left has a sassy, and bold, personality, according to a Pennsylvania shelter.
Jello has been a long-term resident of The Humane Society of Somerset County since her former owners left her behind.
“My name is Jello and I’m a 6 year old girl who has spent the past two and a half years at the Humane Society,” the shelter said in a Sept. 27 Facebook post. “I used to have a home of my own, but my humans had to move. They promised me they would take me with them, but when they left they forgot all about me.”
The shelter attempted to track down her owners after she was discovered all by herself by the owners’ ex-landlord, who brought her to the humane society.
“The nice humans reached out to my former owners who promised to come and get me, but they never did,” the shelter said.
During her long stay, the shelter staff has become fluent in Jello’s love language, which includes an abundance of sass and leadership qualities.
“The people at the Humane Society call my personality bold, and I think that’s a fitting description. I like to be in charge, and when the humans are cleaning or giving us food, I enjoy supervising to make sure they’re doing a good job. I even like to help! Sometimes they call me ‘the hall monitor,’ the shelter wrote.
“I can enjoy attention, but I prefer being the one to initiate it. I like being petted, but I can be a little feisty too. If you try to pet me when I’m not feeling it, I’ll give you a gentle little bite to tell you I’m done. If you don’t stop, I might bite a little harder. A girl needs to have her boundaries respected, after all!”
Cuddles should not be forced, and don’t let other felines into Jello’s space bubble — she won’t be thrilled with them. As long as they keep their distance, she’s fine. Dogs and kids are on her no-no list.
“My ideal home would be an adult human who doesn’t mind that I can be a bit aloof,” the post says.
