Friendly kitten hit by a car now ‘eagerly greets’ shelter visitors. He needs a home
A friendly kitten was hit by a car — and now he needs a new home.
“With love, we named him ‘Toyota’ as a reminder of what he had overcome,” a Virginia animal shelter wrote Sept. 19 on Facebook. “Now, the once tiny, helpless kitten is officially available for adoption, and we are working to cover the cost of his medical care.”
The Lynchburg Humane Society said Toyota is ready for his next chapter after going through a rough patch earlier this summer. He was found “lying in the road with a bloodied nose and a broken jaw.”
“We didn’t have to guess what had happened, we knew…he was hit by a car,” the shelter wrote. “Miraculously, none of his vital organs had been struck, but with a broken jaw and facial trauma, it would be a long road to recovery.”
A person rescued the young cat and quickly rushed him to the humane society. That’s where Toyota got a chance to rest and start medications, helping him to “regain his strength.” Now, the “resilient survivor” is doing better and shows his friendly side at the shelter.
“His habitat is at the lobby front desk, where he eagerly greets all our guests,” Michelle Thomas, director of development, told McClatchy News in an email.
Toyota, now 3 months old, was still waiting for a new owner as of Sept. 20. More details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at lynchburghumane.org.
The shelter, a roughly 55-mile drive east from Roanoke, said it doesn’t know who’s suspected of hitting Toyota.
