As a person ran toward their apartment to take shelter from two accused robbers firing shots, one gunshot flew through the apartment and fatally struck the person’s mother, Missouri police said.
The person was working on a car in a nearby parking lot on Sept. 15 when Carlione Boyd, 20, and Terrell McCann, 22, approached them, according to a criminal complaint and news outlets. Boyd put a gun to the person’s head and attempted to rob them, University City police said.
The person was able to take control of Boyd’s gun and fired shots at the two accused robbers, police said. One of the gunshots paralyzed McCann, the complaint said.

The gunfire hit their mother inside the apartment, according to the criminal complaint.
Police identified the mother as 39-year-old Ashleigh Selmon, KSDK reported.
