Motorcyclist’s phone flies into hit-and-run suspect’s car, leading to arrest, cops say
A motorcyclist’s phone flew into a man’s vehicle following a hit-and-run crash in Oregon, deputies said.
Her phone was tracked, according to officials, and it led to his arrest.
The woman was hit by a driver in a dark-colored Scion XB at 7:35 p.m. on Sept. 13, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The driver fled the scene without checking on the woman or exchanging information, deputies said.
Multiple witnesses saw the crash and reported it to authorities, deputies said.
Her phone was missing, so a family member tracked it to a location over a mile away and found the reported vehicle with “damage consistent with being in a crash,” deputies said.
Deputies said they arrested the 27-year-old driver on a charge of felony hit-and-run.
The woman had serious injuries from the crash “but was thankfully wearing a helmet, which likely saved her life,” deputies said.
Washington County is in northwestern Oregon and includes parts of the Portland metro area.
