A 60-year-old man followed a woman, crashed into her car, then sexually assaulted her at a gas station when she pulled over, police in southwestern Michigan said.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. Sept. 8, WOOD reported.

According to investigators, the man followed her from Grand Haven before crashing into her SUV with his, and then continued to follow her, the outlet reported.

Thinking he may have wanted to file a police report of the crash, she pulled into a gas station in Port Sheldon Township, WGHN reported.

When they got out of their vehicles, the man, later identified as a Muskegon resident, assaulted the woman, the outlet reported.

The woman fought him off, freed herself and called 911, WWMT reported.

The man fled the scene but was arrested the next day, according to the outlet.

He is being held at the Muskegon County Jail for parole violation, the Holland Sentinel reported.

The man’s name and charges against him related to the assault have not yet been released, the outlet reported.

Port Sheldon Township is about a 200-mile drive west from Detroit.
