21-year-old man falls out of party bus window onto highway at 50 mph, Iowa cops say

An Iowa man is being treated for serious injuries after falling out of the window of a moving party bus, authorities said.

Deputies responded shortly after 1 a.m. Sept. 7 to a 911 call about a person who fell out of a bus onto Highway 18 near Hull, according to a Sept. 8 news release from the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, passengers on an “All 4 Fun” party bus alerted the driver that 21-year-old Levi Koopmans, of Ireton, “leaned against an unlatched window” and fell through.

The bus was traveling at about 50 mph at the time of the incident, authorities said.

McClatchy News reached out to “All 4 Fun” for comment Sept. 9 but did not immediately receive a response.

Koopmans was flown to Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with serious injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

Hull is about a 240-mile drive northwest from Des Moines.
