A 69-year-old man was arrested after he was accused of killing his “long-term” girlfriend, California police say.

West Valley Area patrol officers responded to a call about “an assault with a deadly weapon” shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a news release.

When they arrived, officers found a woman with “blunt force trauma” to her upper body, police said.

Officers identified the woman’s boyfriend, William Anthony Tillman, as a suspect and detained him on scene, according to police.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department declared the 76-year-old woman dead, police said. Her name will not be released until her next of kin has been notified.

Homicide detectives took over the investigation and arrested Tillman on a murder charge, police said.

He is being held on $2 million bail, according to police.
