A pint-sized kitten has proven to be a tiny, headstrong survivor after going through a brutal start in life, a Virginia shelter says.

Kanga was only a baby when tragedy hit on a bridge — she was hit by a car and nearly died , the Lynchburg Humane Society said on Facebook.

“Kanga’s story began in the most heartbreaking way. This tiny three-month-old black kitten was found on a bridge, alone and injured after being struck by a car,” the Aug. 21 post said. “Her situation was dire—head trauma, fractures in both front legs and painful scrapes on her paw pads and face.”

Kanga ended up being rescued by members of the community and brought to the Lynchburg shelter for aid. Luckily, they were able to stabilize Kanga.

“X-rays confirmed the extent of her injuries, and we began the first steps of what will be a long journey of healing,” the post continued.

“Thanks to this dedication, Kanga is already doing much better!”

Even though she’s showing signs of true kittenhood — Kanga still has a long road of recovery ahead of her.

“She still faces multiple surgeries, ongoing pain management and weeks of rehabilitation,” the shelter said.

The shelter added that there is a reason behind her unique name.

“We named her Kanga because of the way she sits up like a little kangaroo, a necessity due to her fractured front legs. But it also shows her incredible resilience and determination to keep going, even when life has knocked her down,” the post said.

Lynchburg is about a 115-mile drive west from Richmond.
