Police in Michigan have arrested two teenagers who they say plotted to kill one of the teen’s mom so they could be together.

At about 4 a.m. July 14, Eastpointe police were called for reports of a home invasion and attempted homicide, according to a news release from the Eastpointe Police Department.

When officers arrived, police said a woman at the home told them she was sleeping in her room when an unknown male pinned a body pillow against her face. He then jumped on top of her and began strangling her until she couldn’t breathe, she told police, according to the news release.

The woman told police she may have lost consciousness. However, at some point, she cried out for help and her mother came into the room, screaming at the male until he ran off, police said.

The male said “he was sorry” and ran out of the house, according to police. He left his shoes behind, appearing that he took them off when he entered the home.

A kitchen knife belonging to the woman was also found outside near where the male ran, police said.

The woman told police she believed her 14-year-old daughter may have had something to do with the attack and that her daughter was a “problem child” with a record.

“She said that her daughter does not like to follow house rules and is upset that her phone was taken away as punishment,” police said.

After investigating, police uncovered what they are calling a murder plot.

The male responsible for the attack was identified as a 17-year-old. Police said the 17-year-old and the woman’s 14-year-old daughter met on a social media app and began a relationship.

Then, the two came up with a plan to kill the 14-year-old’s mother to “have more freedom of being together,” police said.

Both of the teens were charged as adults by the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

The 17-year-old is charged with conspiracy to commit homicide and assault with intent to murder, which is a felony punishable by life in prison or any number of years. The 14-year-old is charged with homicide – solicitation of murder and conspiracy to commit homicide.

The 17-year-old was given a $2.5 million bond, and the 14-year-old was given a $1 million bond, according to police.
