A dog in Pennsylvania has come a long way since arriving at a shelter over a year ago, staff said. But he still needs a home.

The sweet dog named Guiness has been at the The Beaver County Humane Society in Aliquippa for more than 365 days, making him one of the shelter’s longest residents, according to an Aug. 10 Facebook post.

“Guiness was found all alone in a ditch on the side of the road. He was so terrified that he couldn’t move. In fact, Guiness did not move for over 12 hours after he was found,” the shelter said in the post.

“That’s why today we are putting on a happy face for this sad occasion. We hate knowing that a dog has been homeless for a year, but we are thankful that we have been able to keep him safe for this long. After Guiness was taken to the safety of the shelter, he spent months gaining confidence. It took time for him to trust people, walk on a leash, and even eat out of a bowl.”

Recently, Guiness has been spending time in a foster home and has become close with his foster parent and their three dogs.

“Guiness can be shy or wary of meeting new people, but once he gets to know you, he becomes incredibly sweet and affectionate, fiercely loving his person,” his foster parent said, according to the post.

“He and I have developed a special bond; if I’m home, he’s usually right by my side, lending a paw or snuggling. He has grown to love our neighbor, who helps out when I need to go into the office. Every day, Guiness runs to the fence and peeks through, looking for him. His uncoordinated zoomies always crack me up; he seems blissfully unaware of his size.”

  • Toys

  • Television shows

  • Playing with other dogs

  • Treats
