Recycling center workers stumbled upon the body of a baby boy in the early hours of Aug. 6, South Dakota police said.

Officers received a call around 6:40 a.m. saying staff members at Millennium Recycling found the infant, the Sioux Falls police told KELO.

Police spokesperson Sam Clemens described the infant’s age as “full-term” but said his exact age is unknown, KSFY reported.

Clemens said the death was “unattended,” meaning it happened outside of a medical facility, the Argus Leader reported.

Police said they are investigating the cause of the infant’s death and how long he had been at the recycling center, according to SDPB Radio.
