3-year-old boy mauled by dogs in Minnesota home not expected to survive, loved one says
A 3-year-old boy who was mauled by two dogs in a Minnesota home will be taken off life support, a family friend said.
The boy, identified in a GoFundMe as Covil Allen, was being attacked by two dogs when Brooklyn Park police officers arrived to a home July 19, McClatchy News reported.
Officers shot the dogs, killing one and injuring the other, police said.
Covil was taken to a hospital, where police said he was in critical condition. Dustin Chromey, who helped organize the GoFundMe for the family, said Covil underwent a 7-hour surgery.
The attack caused a brain bleed and facial swelling, among other injuries, Chromey said in a Facebook post.
According to a Wednesday, July 24, post on Facebook, the family was preparing to take Covil off life support and have his organs donated.
“This will honor Covil’s life and save more children’s lives in hopes that no other parent has to endure the pain that they are experiencing right now,” the organizer of the GoFundMe said.
Police confirmed to KSTP on July 25 that the boy had died.
The fundraising post said Covil’s mother was also injured in the attack and was expected to undergo her third surgery to repair skin damage on her calf.
Brooklyn Park is about a 10-mile drive northwest of Minneapolis. Four days after the dog mauling, a separate dog attack in Brooklyn Park injured a 7-year-old girl, police said.
