A treasure of a cat is in need of a loving home after he was surrendered to the same shelter that cared for him when he was only a kitten.

Meet Pocus, a sweet, beautiful black cat with a mischievous stare and a need for gentle pets, a July 16 Facebook post by the Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter in New Jersey said.

“Pocus is a big, sleek, beauty of a cat of about 8 1/2 years old that we’re actually so sad to see!” the post says. “We remember him from eight years ago, when he was adopted from us as a little kitten. Sadly he’s back, due to his owner having health issues that led them unable to care for him any longer.”

Like most domestic pets that are living in shelters, worry over Pocus’ well-being plays a huge factor in his attitude, but for now, he’s putting on a brave face.

“Pocus is doing his very best not to let being in a shelter again get him down, and although he’s no kitten anymore, he’s still super sweet and lovable. Pocus is a laid-back and lazy kind of guy that is content to flop around and get a belly rub, but he also loves his toys and will get playful from time to time.”

The shelter says that although he’s never lived with other cats, he “doesn’t seem opposed to having a feline” companion in his new dwelling space.

“He’s a real homebody of a cat that is definitely dreaming of sprawling out on a couch of his own again,” the post says.

The shelter is located in Forked River, about a 50-mile drive north from Atlantic City.
