An explosion at a July 3 fireworks display injured three pyrotechnic workers, one seriously, California officials reported.

The accident took place during the Fortunato Jimenez Fireworks Show on Wednesday night, the City of La Puente said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Along with the seriously injured pyrotechnician, two other workers suffered minor injuries in the misfire and explosion, the city said.

“We ask for your thoughts and support for their families during this challenging time,” the city said.

All three workers were hospitalized and were in stable condition Thursday, July 4, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told KABC.

Officials told the station that no foul play is suspected in the incident.

La Puente is about a 20-mile drive east of downtown Los Angeles.
