Two Powerball players win big in California. Where were the lucky tickets sold?
Two Powerball tickets sold in California won nearly $400,000 and narrowly missed the $139 million jackpot, lottery officials say.
The tickets matched five winning numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Wednesday, July 3, the California Lottery said.
A ticket sold in Ohio won the grand prize, which falls to an estimated $20 million, with a cash value of $9.5 million, for the next drawing Saturday, July 6, according to the national Powerball site.
The winning numbers were 2, 26, 33, 55 and 57, with a Powerball of 22.
The $397,355 tickets were sold at a liquor store in Sanger, which is about a 15-mile drive east from Fresno, and a gas station in Forestville, which is about a 70-mile drive northwest from San Francisco.
California adjusts Powerball prizes based on the numbers of tickets sold and winners.
More than 42,000 other Powerball tickets sold in California also won prizes ranging from $4 to more than $45,000, the state lottery said.
A ticket sold in Pennsylvania won $1 million with five winning numbers.
