A deputy was arrested after being accused of sexually assaulting a sheriff’s office volunteer, California cops say.

Alexander Vanny, 33, who has been a deputy with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office for eight years, was arrested June 22, authorities said in a June 23 news release.

The day before Vanny’s arrest, the woman, a volunteer with the sheriff’s office, told another deputy about the alleged sexual assault, according to officials.

“Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the deputy immediately reported the incident to his supervisor,” officials said.

Through an investigation, officials said they found evidence that Vanny had sexually assaulted the woman.

Vanny was booked into jail on multiple felony sexual assault charges, deputies said.

Vanny, who mostly recently worked at the Hemet Sheriff’s Station, was placed on unpaid administrative leave until the conclusion of the investigation, which is ongoing, according to officials.

“The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office condemns any form of misconduct involving its personnel on or off duty and remains resolute in its commitment to deterring and preventing such behavior,” deputies said.

Vanny, who is being held on $1 million bail, is expected to appear in court on Aug. 5, online jail records show.

Hemet is about a 90-mile drive northeast from San Diego.
