An Indiana man was arrested after officials say he admitted to killing his wife, news outlets report.

Around 7:20 a.m. June 1, officers responded to a home in Indianapolis for reports of a shooting, according to a Facebook post by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

While there, officers detained 25-year-old Robert Cooley.

Cooley told investigators, “I did something bad. I need to go to jail” and later told them “I took my wife’s life,” court records said, according to WISH.

Inside the home, authorities found his wife, 26-year-old Amber Morgan dead from a gunshot wound, WXIN reported. Authorities said she had been beaten and her throat had been slashed.

Morgan was a kindergarten teacher at Victory College Prep network, according to the news outlet.

“Amber Morgan’s warm smile, nurturing spirit and caring heart set the best examples for our youngest and most impressionable students,” a statement from the school to WXIN said.

Morgan’s father told WISH she was like no other.

“This woman, they don’t make ’em like that,” Corey Morgan told the outlet.

Police say her death was a domestic-related homicide.

Morgan’s parents told WISH she had just had a baby five weeks prior.

An attorney for Cooley was not listed in court records.
