A utility worker died after a reported gas leak in southeast Georgia, deputies said.

Wayne County deputies were called on Monday, April 15, after an Atlanta Gas Light employee was found unresponsive at a home in Jesup, Sheriff Chuck Moseley said in a news release.

The Jesup Fire Department and Wayne County EMS also responded, Moseley said.

The worker, 21-year-old Brandon Butler, was taken to a hospital, where he died.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brandon’s family, friends and his Atlanta Gas Light teammates,” a company spokesperson told McClatchy News in a statement. “The incident is under investigation.”

Authorities didn’t release additional details but said they’re investigating.

Wayne County is about a 70-mile drive southwest from downtown Savannah.
