Rock & Roll Hall of Famer John Mellencamp abruptly left the stage while being heckled at an Ohio concert, video shows.

It reportedly happened Sunday, March 17, as Mellencamp performed at Stranahan Theater in Toledo.

The Toledo Blade reported Mellencamp was being heckled as he was telling stories between songs. He suggested one heckler “should go back to kindergarten,” while shouting expletives at another.

“Play music!” a concertgoer was heard shouting to Mellencamp in a TikTok video shared from the concert.

Mellencamp threatened to “cut 10 songs” from his set as the crowd continued to interrupt him.

“You know what? Show’s over,” Mellencamp eventually told the audience as he stormed off the stage after beginning to play his iconic song “Jack & Diane,” the TikTok video shows.

Many of the concertgoers began to leave, according to the blog Out of the Blue, which reviewed Mellencamp’s show.

But after the heckler was removed from the audience, according to Out of the Blue, Mellencamp made his return to the stage.

David Yonke, a freelance writer who attended the show, said Mellencamp did not mention the incident as he finished his set.

“I’ve never seen a veteran entertainer have such a temper tantrum over a ‘heckler,’” Yonke said in a Facebook post. “And it wasn’t even a heckler, really, just some rude fan. But there were 2,400 other Mellencamp fans who deserved better.”

Mellencamp, also known for his songs “Hurts So Good” and “R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.” was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2008.
