$2 million Powerball ticket sold in South Carolina. Where did the winner buy it?
A lottery player is set to get much richer after scoring a $2 million prize in South Carolina.
The lucky person won big after buying a Powerball ticket that matched five out of the six numbers picked in the Oct. 2 drawing. Since the winner spent an extra dollar on the Power Play ticket option, the original $1 million prize doubled, results show.
Now, the S.C. Education Lottery is urging people to check their tickets to see if they won the unclaimed prize.
The numbers picked in the drawing were white balls 12-26-27-43-47, with Powerball number 5. The South Carolina ticket matched all five white balls and was sold at an Exxon gas station on North Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville, state lottery officials wrote in a news release.
The lucky ticket was one number from winning the jackpot prize, which stood at an estimated $1 billion the night of the drawing. But the odds of hitting the jackpot are steep, standing at more than 1 in 292 million, officials said.
No one had claimed the $2 million South Carolina prize as of about 9:50 a.m. Oct. 3. There’s still time, as the winner has about six months to come forward, lottery spokesperson Holli Armstrong told McClatchy News in an email.
The ticket holder may want to wait a few days to cash in. Several people won in a recent Pick 4 game drawing, which could lead to delays at the lottery claims center, according to a post on X, formerly called Twitter.
