An 18-year-old drowned while swimming with friends at a Utah state park, officials said.

Alejandro Morales, of Goshen, was in the water with others at Palisade State Park when “the weather conditions began to deteriorate” on Saturday, June 3, the Utah Division of State Parks said in a news release.

Other park visitors helped those struggling in the water to shore “but could not reach Morales,” who went underwater and never resurfaced, officials said.

Witnesses called 911, and Morales, who was not wearing a life jacket, was later found “in 15-20 feet of water,” officials said.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died, according to officials.

Park officials urged those visiting to wear a life jacket and helmet and let others know your plans.

Officials added that visitors should also check “weather conditions and water temperatures.”

Palisade State Park is about 130 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.
