A capsized boat on a family outing on an Alaska creek killed a 40-year-old woman and left her family stranded, state troopers reported.

Candi Hendrickson was reported missing after the accident at 4:43 p.m. Sunday, May 28, Alaska State Troopers said in a dispatch.

Her 41-year-old husband and two kids, ages 6 and 14, were left stranded on Birch Creek north of Fairbanks, troopers said.

An airplane found the family but could not land to pick them up, troopers said. Search teams rescued the family and recovered Hendrickson’s body from the creek.

Fairbanks is about 360 miles north of Anchorage.
