Beachgoers find a big surprise — a bundle of suspected cocaine along shore, cops say
A walk near the shore led beachgoers to a big surprise — a bundle of suspected cocaine, deputies told Alabama news outlets.
The bundle contained at least 20 packages believed to be holding the illegal drug, according to photos shared with WPMI.
The discovery was made May 20 in the West End Beach area of Dauphin Island. The bundle, which “appeared to have been there for some time,” was pulled from the coast and taken to narcotics investigators, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office told WKRG.
Now, deputies said two people have been arrested and face charges of cocaine trafficking, WALA reported.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is expected to help with the investigation, multiple news outlets reported.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on May 23.
Dauphin Island is along the Gulf Coast, roughly 35 miles south of Mobile.
