A 16-year-old boy died after a gruesome accident in a high school P.E. class, Washington officials told news outlets.

The teen fell while running and impaled his eye on a goalpost at Cheney High School, Fire Chief Tom Jenkins told KREM.

Firefighters responded to the accident at about 2 p.m. Thursday, April 27, and took the boy to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries, KXLY reported.

A GoFundMe established to help his family with expenses identified the teen as Brayden Bahme.

The GoFundMe said any extra money raised will go to a youth fishing program in honor of Bahme’s love of fishing.

Cheney High School announced his death in a message on Friday, April 28, The Spokesman-Review reported.

“If you feel you or your child are in need of support from one of our counselors, please do not hesitate to call the counseling center at your school,” Superintendent Ben Ferney wrote.

Cheney is a city of 13,000 people about 15 miles southwest of Spokane.
