Family fights for paralyzed pup — and she’s never left out of the fun, TikTok shows
A paralyzed dog is pulling heartstrings on TikTok as she continues along her road to recovery.
Charlotte and her owners live in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and keep more than 79,000 followers on TikTok up to date on her life.
Charlotte became paralyzed after she suffered from distemper, her owners said on a GoFundMe page. Distemper is a contagious illness that “attacks the respiratory, gastrointestinal and nervous systems of puppies and dogs,” according to the American Veterinary Medical Association.
After she became ill, Charlotte could only move her eyes but regained more movement as time went on, according to her family. While some viewers may see a struggling dog, Charlotte’s family keeps full faith that she could recover with the right treatment.
“Recovery is a long process, but we are not giving up! I know how much life you have inside, how much you want to live, how much you fought,” Charlotte’s family wrote on TikTok on a video posted April 12. “I will keep helping you with everything I can.”
While Charlotte continues to regain motion, her family is determined to help her live the best life possible even though her mobility is limited. They carry her to run with her playmates, explore the beach, and join other activities to help enrich the paralyzed pup.
Charlotte has different types of therapy to help promote her recovery, including water therapy, and has been able to move using a stroller, her family has shown in videos. Even just developing mobility in Charlotte’s front legs could help improve her life tremendously, her family said.
“As someone who adopts dogs with medical needs, this is so much work,” one person commented. “People don’t understand how time-consuming rehab is. You’re amazing.”
“She deserves everything,” another said. “Thank you for giving her a chance.”
