He missed out on $6 million lottery win, but Michigan man gets second chance. ‘Stunned’
Thinking he may have won $1,000 or $10,000, a Michigan man took a call from lottery officials with great anticipation.
He soon learned his fortunes were even bigger than he imagined, as he won the jackpot in a Michigan Lottery second-chance drawing, according to a March 23 news release.
The 70-year-old man from Wayne County, who chose to remain anonymous, was eligible for the random drawing after not winning the $6,000,000 Jackpot game. A woman from Alpena County recently claimed the $6,000,000 top prize, and a woman from White Lake won the $100,000 top prize in the game’s second-chance drawing in February.
The second-chance drawing offers one $100,000 winner — and the Wayne County man said he was “stunned” when he found out it was him.
“The thought of winning the $100,000 prize never crossed my mind because I never thought I would win it,” he told lottery officials.
He has several ideas for how he’ll use the money — paying bills, donating to charity and completing home improvements.
“Winning feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders,” he said.
Wayne County is in southeastern Michigan and its county seat is Detroit.
