Worker ‘turned bright red’ when she realized how much she won with Michigan Lottery
A 46-year-old Michigan woman was on break at work when she decided to buy a $5 instant scratch game lottery ticket.
She “scratched it right away” — and at first she didn’t think the ticket was a winner, according to a March 8 news release from the Michigan Lottery. But then she looked the Mystery Key Cashword ticket over once more.
She had won the game’s top $300,000 prize, officials said.
“When I realized how much I’d won, I turned bright red and a coworker asked if I was okay, so I handed him the ticket and had him look it over,” the Oakland County woman, who chose to remain anonymous, told lottery officials.
“After that, I had a couple more coworkers look the ticket over to make sure I was reading it right,” she continued. “Eventually, I scanned it on the Lottery app and confirmed my $300,000 prize.”
She recently went to claim her prize, officials said, and she plans to use her winnings to pay bills and save.
“Winning feels unbelievable,” she said in the release.
The woman purchased her winning ticket at a supermarket in Madison Heights, about 10 miles northwest of downtown Detroit.
