Scared coyote crashes through glass window in escape attempt from Washington hospital
A coyote accidentally wandered into a Washington hospital and crashed through glass when it got frightened.
Then it needed its own medical attention.
The wild animal ran into the Jefferson Healthcare Medical Center on Tuesday, Feb. 7, in Port Townsend, the Center Valley Animal Rescue said in a Facebook post.
It likely found its way into the hospital when it got frightened by something outside, the agency’s director of rescue Sara Penhallegon told McClatchy News.
“It looked like a dark safe spot,” she said.
The 25-pound female animal made its way down a hallway and then crashed through a glass window.
It ended up in an enclosed courtyard where animal rescuers were able to capture and sedate it, the agency said.
The coyote injured its head, so rescuers gave it some stitches, then released it the next day, Penhallegon said.
Penhallegon said the rescue group has gotten calls on animals being in “weird areas” before, but capturing a coyote from a hospital was a first.
“They do weird things, but I’m sure it had no intent of going into a human space,” she said. “It just found itself at the wrong hospital.”
Port Townsend is about 60 miles northwest of Seattle.
