‘This is unhinged.’ A rental listing has downright appalled Zillow Gone Wild. See why
Soaring rent prices across the country have people in a chokehold while they attempt to explore other living options that aren’t so costly. However, this particular rental in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, may not be one of those options.
The residence on Zillow.com is actually a vast tent on a backyard deck and available for $399 per month.
Yes, you read that right.
“5-ROOM TENT on 450-square-foot-deck,” the listing says. “Zillow does not have a tent option, so I selected ‘house’. This is an elevated TENT.”
The tent itself actually seems pretty spacious and the cost includes:
Electric
Propane for shower and grill
Wi-Fi
Port-a-potty
Pullout bed
Recliner chair
Dining table
Dinner and cookware
Shower tent
The listing caught the attention of Zillow Gone Wild, a Facebook page and Twitter account that highlights unique properties on the real estate market. People, needless to say, were appalled.
“I don’t even have to write a joke comment. The listing IS the joke,” one person said.
“If you compare to the cost of reserving a campsite, shared with other people, without the same amenities, it’s actually a good deal,” another commented. “If you compare it to rent prices 10 years ago for small apartment in an iffy neighborhood, it’s crazy.”
“I’m SO CLOSE to hitting ‘schedule a tour’ but I can’t be that person,” someone joked.
“That could probably rent for twice that where I live,” one person said. “The housing crisis is real.”
“I mean….it’s cheaper than any apartment, it’s warm, you can cook, use the internet, and not poop in a hole. I think this is a win,” another joked.
“Are there cheaper winter rates?” someone asked.
“This is unhinged,” one person tweeted.
“We’re doomed,” another said.
Scottdale is about 45 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
