Famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s home lists for only $595K, but it’s a fixer-upper
He’s still considered one of the greatest architects of all time, but even Frank Lloyd Wright started out designing modest homes during the first part of his wildly famous career. And now, one of those early works has landed on the real estate market in Oak Park, Illinois for a pretty low price as far as Wright’s work goes.
But there’s a reason.
The three-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom house looks to be a bit of a fixer-upper based on the photos posted to the listing on Realtor.com — which is only three. The listing itself doesn’t even go into much detail other than the cost of the house — $595,000 — and a few sentences.
“Frank Lloyd Wright home located in south Oak Park,” the listing says. “All original. Large lot. Historical gem located in Oak Park.”
The Oak Park neighborhood is home to the “largest collection of Wright-designed structures in the world,” many of which are available for tours, according to choosechicago.com.
The house was built in 1898, which is nine years after Wright built his own home following his marriage to Catherine Lee Tobin in 1889, The Frank Lloyd Wright website says.
According to Realtor.com, the cost of the home has dropped two times since it went on the market in December 2020.
“Despite the home’s pedigree and striking design — which includes diamond-paned windows in the entry, a fireplace, and crown molding — its interior needs some work,” Realtor.com says.
“On the first floor is the dining room, living room, kitchen, store room, and pantry. The bedrooms and a bath are on the second and third floors.”
Oak Park is about 10 miles west of Chicago.
