Motorcycle rider thrown onto interstate before truck hits and kills him, NC cops say
A motorcycle rider died when a truck driver wasn’t able to avoid hitting him on a North Carolina interstate, officials said.
State troopers said a 29-year-old was on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he abruptly slowed down, causing the bike to flip and throw him off. He later was hit by a tractor-trailer, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
The man died at the scene of the Randolph County crash, troopers said in a news release. He was identified as Isaac Arnaldo Olivas of Lexington, about 30 miles southwest of Greensboro.
Troopers were called to the crash site at about 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18. It was reported along Interstate 85 near Finch Farm Road, roughly 20 miles southwest of Greensboro.
As officials responded to the scene, traffic on I-85 north reportedly was down to one lane. The busy Southern thoroughfare reopened about three hours later.
But even after the hours-long investigation, officials were “uncertain as to why Olivas braked suddenly causing him to lose control,” troopers wrote in a news release.
The semi-truck driver wasn’t hurt in the crash and isn’t expected to face charges, according to N.C. State Highway Patrol.
