A boater who was reported missing in Tennessee was found dead after his boat sank, officials said.

Jimmy C. Franks was found on Pickwick Lake early on Friday, Jan. 6, according to a news release from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

He was reported missing on Thursday after he didn’t return from a trip on the lake, Hardin County Fire Chief Melvin Martin said in an email to McClatchy News.

Officials said they began searching for Franks, 72, on Thursday night and resumed their search on Friday morning.

During the Friday morning search, a fisherman on the lake saw unattended fishing nets that he recognized as belonging to Franks, Hardin County Fire Chief Melvin Martin told The Courier.

Franks’ boat had sunk and his body was found tangled in a net, Martin said.

Wildlife officials said Franks was not wearing a life jacket at the time he drowned.

Pickwick Lake is about 131 miles from Memphis.
