68-year-old dies trapped in freight elevator doorway, California officials say

A man was found dead in the doorway of a freight elevator at a commercial building, California officials said.

The 68-year-old man, identified as Francisco Orduno Mota by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, died after becoming trapped on the second floor elevator doorway at the back of a six-story building in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday, Jan. 4, according to an alert from the Los Angeles Fire Department.

An autopsy for Mota is pending, according to the coroner’s office.

Mota worked in the building, investigators told ABC 7 News. Los Angeles police and the California Division of Occupational Safety are investigating the incident.
